What's inside

Everything about paying yourself, in one place

Two changes from 6 April 2026 catch directors out: dividend tax rose 2 points (to 10.75% and 35.75%) and so did Section 455 tax on new overdrawn loans (to 35.75%). Plans built on last year's numbers will be wrong. The pack gives you this year's numbers and shows how to use them.

Your company and personal tax calendars

Payroll, accounts, Corporation Tax, s455, CT600 and confirmation statement dates, plus the Self Assessment and payments-on-account timetable.

The salary question, with the numbers

The three sensible figures for 2026/27 (£5,000, £6,708 and £12,570), which one fits you, and when Employment Allowance applies to a sole director.

Four worked examples

£30,000, £50,000, £80,000 and £150,000 of profit, every step shown, including stopping at the higher-rate band and the £100,000 trap.

Dividends done legally

Distributable profits, timing and paperwork, with a board minute and dividend voucher template you can copy.

Director's loan account

Overdrawn balances, s455 at 35.75%, the 30-day rule, the £10,000 benefit-in-kind limit, a worked example and a loan tracker.

Pensions, expenses, cars and IR35

Employer pension contributions, tax-free expenses and benefits, company cars and EVs, and IR35 in brief.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What exactly do I get?

A 28-page PDF, Edition 1 for the 2026/27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027). You download it straight after paying and can re-download it for 30 days.

Is it up to date for 2026/27?

Yes. Every figure was checked against GOV.UK, HMRC's manuals and the legislation on 12 October 2026, including the higher dividend and Section 455 rates from 6 April 2026. If the 28 October 2026 Budget changes the rules for 2026/27 or 2027/28, we'll publish a new edition.

Does it cover Scotland?

Dividend tax is the same across the UK, so the dividend sections apply everywhere. The examples use England, Wales and Northern Ireland income tax bands for salary; the pack notes where Scottish bands differ.

Is this tax advice?

No. It's general information in plain English, with worked examples. It includes a page on when it's worth paying an accountant.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If it isn't what you needed, use our contact page and we'll refund you in full.
